Today, July 3, 2012: Full Moon in Capricorn as Mars enters Libra, to trigger an extended Independence Day drama

May I learn to pivot “on point” as Mars enters Libra, retaining grace, balance, equanimity.

Update: See next post, for more perspective.

An odd, but, to me, extremely significant “coincidence,” i.e., synchronicity: I clicked on the planetwaves.org site this morning, seeking an article on today’s Full Moon at 12° Capricorn/Cancer (here’s one article on it, from another site) and instead saw that Mars would enter 0° Libra today at 8:31 am EDT.

What time did I find this out? 8:32 am EDT!

Now what are the odds of that?

Mars entrance into the sign opposite the sign it rules (Aries) is not that rare, since full Mars cycles are about two years long, moving through each sign in about two months. This time, Mars will remain in Libra until August 24, when it moves into passionate Scorpio.

But the entrance of Mars into Libra is important for me, personally, because as Mars moves into this sign it begins to conjunct my natal Neptune at 2° Libra, and soon after, my natal Midheaven at 5° Libra.

Lots of people have Neptune in early Libra: we are the ones born during World War II between late 1942 and 1945. We came in as America was learning how to unlock the secrets of the atom. I personally was born on December 19, only seventeen days after the first controlled chain reaction under the stands of Stagg Field in Chicago. As a soul group, we chose to come in during that time for a reason: we are pioneering, visionary forerunners of the hippies, the ones who would become known as the “peace, love, dope” generation that came of age in the ’60s.

We flew into our 3D bodies on Earth during the period when America was beginning to learn how to harness the profound power of creation, without the wisdom to understand its implications for the future of humanity and our planetary home.

A few relevant Einstein quotes:

“Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors. Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations.”

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.”

Those of us, who, like me, have Neptune on the Midheaven of their natal chart are more rare. We were destined to become conscious of this awful nuclear power, and to feel a personal responsibility, in some way, for making sure we stupid fools do not blow up the planet.

As you can imagine, this is an impossible burden for one puny human being to carry. I have written about my journey of healing from this affliction in an essay: Meeting Sekhmet, wherein this terrifying goddess of war drilled a message into me inside a tiny temple at Luxor, Egypt.

Even so, each time a transiting planet clicks onto Neptune, it also sets off my Midheaven and reminds me of my path, and the path of fellow beings in my soul group who are conscious of this path.

So now, Mars. Planet of testosterone, courage, impulse, war, confrontation, moving into the sign of Libra — peace, harmony, mediation, balance. How to reconcile? Does this just mean Mars must lie low until it leaves this sign?

Hardly. Especially now now, when Mars in Libra is about to create an extremely tense T-square with the Uranus/Pluto square, which went exact on June 24 for the first of 7 exact conjunctions over the next 3 years.

Mars sets off this explosive, fiery, primal, destructive, generative Uranus/Pluto square. It does so within this superheated month of July, 2012, especially between about July 8 through the 21st.

Then, right in the middle of that two week period, on July 13th, Uranus turns, to go retrograde. In order to do so, it appears, from our position, to slow down, stop, and then slowly start up again. During that time, its explosive, fiery, radical, unpredictable nature intensifies. That it turns to go retrograde may mean that right as things heat up to the breaking point, something radically unusual takes place: we stop, turn, pivot in place, start to recognize what we are doing, pull back all the guns, and initiate the hard work of listening to each other, making peace.

This, I pray.

“Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” — Albert Einstein
