“WETIKO”: Are you infected? I am.
As we begin to pull back from our own strong, polarized, reactions to the recent and historically unprecedented election; as we work to embrace in our open, broken hearts the native wisdom keepers and veterans at Standing Rock as well as their “opponents” — heavily militarized police from seven states and mercenaries there to “protect” the DAPL pipeline; as we notice, over and over again, just how we unconsciously project into the outer world interpersonal dramas that are actually taking place within ourselves — nursing the still bleeding wounds of childhood traumas — let us remember and learn to continuously call out and contain the mutating, shapeshifting virus that Native Americans call “wetiko” and Buddhist, Jungian scholar Paul Levy labels “malignant egophrenia.”
